Twann's Summermadness III (Sundance Festival) 2010
What better way to set off a blog than the long awaited third installment of the Summermadness series? Having endured one of the longest and coldest winters in recent memory, everybody seems to be yearning to soak up the warm sounds of sunshine like a hot bath. That is exactly what this is: a collection of music that plays as the soundtrack to BBQ's in the park, parties on the beach, drivin' around with all the windows down or manoeuvring through Amsterdam's glistening canals in a little boat filled with friends.
This is actually the first edition that is not made entirely from a Hip Hop perspective. Back in the analog days of Sony walkman (and later minidisc) these were made and circulated within a small circle of close friends. In 2005 the first digital edition emerged as a playlist and quickly found it's way beyond the usual suspects. The second edition followed in 2007 under the pressure of popular demand and was composed more accessible than it's predecessor, but lacked the experience of the cassette tape inspired original playlist from two years before (a re-edit may be done soon). This time around the musical influences are much more diverse and range from vintage soul to smoldering reggae and hot salsa, without forgetting the more contemporary soul and smooth Hip Hop flavors.
Hopefully this fresh collection of Summermadness reaches as many iPods as it's first two parts. With no further due, i give you part 3, the sundance festival. enjoy!!
